Basic Driving Instructor (BDIC)
Are you considering becoming a driving instructor? You are required to carry a valid Ontario G licence and you must also have a driving instructor’s licence card in the vehicle while teaching a student.
Most importantly, you must complete an MTO-approved instructor course. That’s where we come in! Our Basic Driving Instructor Course (also known as BDIC) is an MTO-approved program, which will allow you to obtain your Ontario Driving Instructor Licence to teach in-vehicle only.
Our program is 17 days in length, with a combination of classroom and in-vehicle training. We also use our driving simulators during the classroom training to bridge theoretical and practical training. The program discusses Adult Learning Principles, Instructional Techniques, giving and receiving feedback, and lesson planning.
Throughout the program, our BDIC students will learn about adult learning principles and instructional techniques – particularly those used in the vehicle. The aspiring instructors will also learn about giving and receiving feedback, as well as creating relevant lesson plans for Beginner Driver Education (BDE) students.
Basic Classroom Instructor (BCIC)

You can continue to grow your career as a certified driving instructor with our exceptional Basic Classroom Instructor Course (BCIC). Our award-winning program certifies you to reach the next level of driving instructor certification for Class G drivers.
The BCIC course is MTO-approved and will provide you with all the training necessary to obtain the classroom instructor licence in Ontario. Before you are eligible to take the classroom instructor course, you must meet the same requirements as the BDIC course, but you must also have an existing in-vehicle instructor licence.
Our classroom instructor course (BCIC) is 13 days in length. During this program we discuss instructional techniques, focusing on a classroom setting, learning technologies, and advance lesson planning.
Fleet Driver Instructor Course
This program encompasses all the components of the National Occupational Standard for trainers as well as the latest methods in Adult Learning, creating activity based classrooms, standardizing training, and performing evaluations or assessments. What is the Beginner Driver Instructor Course (BDIC)?
The BDIC is an MTO-Approved program that prepares individuals to become licensed driving instructors in Ontario. It combines classroom learning with practical in-vehicle instruction and meets the Ministry of Transportation’s licensing requirements.
Who can take the BDIC program?
Anyone who meets the Ministry of Transportation’s eligibility requirements and wants to become a licensed Ontario driving instructor can enroll.
How long is the BDIC program?
The program is 17 consecutive weekdays (Monday to Friday), running from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Can I complete the BDIC program online?
The nine classroom days can be completed virtually through Zoom, while the eight in-vehicle training days take place in Barrie, Ontario.
What do I need to become a licensed driver instructor?
To become licensed, you must:
- Pass the G1 knowledge and vision tests.
- Obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Successfully complete an MTO-approved BDIC.
- Pass the G2 Exit Road Test through DriveTest.
Is there a deposit required?
Yes. A non-refundable $250 deposit is required to reserve your seat.
What is the difference between BDIC and BCIC?
The difference is where and how you teach. The BDIC program prepares instructors to teach students behind-the-wheel driving lessons and includes extensive in-vehicle training, coaching, and practical instruction.
The BCIC program prepares instructors to teach the classroom portion of beginner driver education. It focuses on instructional techniques, adult learning principles, lesson planning, and effective classroom delivery.

The BCIC is ideal for individuals who want to teach the classroom portion of beginner driver education courses and become licensed driving instructors in Ontario.

The practical training is conducted from our Barrie training facility located at 204 Mapleview Drive West.
