Funding & Financing Options

Making a financial investment into changing or starting a new career isn’t an easy decision to make – that’s why we offer several different funding and financing options to help make that step a bit easier. Take a look at the different options below to see if there’s public or corporate funding available to you! You can also contact your local employment agency and speak with an advisor regarding available funding. If you do not qualify for public or corporate funding, there are other options for you. We offer affordable and flexible financing options through Affirm Canada so that you can make smaller, more manageable payments while you learn.

GRANTS

Better Jobs Ontario

You can receive up to $28,000 in funding through the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities to train for in-demand jobs. This includes commercial driver training – an industry facing a huge labour shortage.

Better Jobs funding will cover various aspects of your training, including:

Tuition
Books
Manuals, workbooks or other instructional costs
Transportation
Basic living allowance (maximum $410 per week)
Child care
A student of KnowledgeSurge looking at a notebook.

To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

You have been laid off and are not working
You have been laid off and are working a temporary job just to cover costs

ONTARIO JOB GRANT

The Ontario Job Grant provides financial support to employers to help them train new or existing employees for new skills on the job.

The government will provide up to $10,000 per person in training costs, but the training must be completed by an eligible third-party trainer.

Important information for employers: If you have 100 or more employees you will need to contribute 1/2 of the cost of training. However, smaller employers with less than 100 employees only need to contribute 1/6 of the cost of training.

Affordable Financing Plans: Affirm Canada

If you do not qualify for public or corporate funding but still want to jump-start your career by getting the training you need, you may qualify for flexible financing plans. This way, you can pay while you train through multiple affordable payments.

Achēv: Are you an internationally trained professional looking to advance your career in Canada?

The Accelerating Career Advancement program at Achēv offers a low-interest educational loan of up to $30,000.00 to achieve your career goals in Canada.

Other Funding Sources

Sign-on Bonuses: ​Some trucking companies offer a sign-on bonus which vary in size, but can be as high as $6,000. These bonuses can greatly assist by reimbursing you for your training expenses.

You may be eligible for funding through Ontario March of Dimes.

Canadian Forces Personnel

Funding may be available through SISIP for retired military personnel or through Canvet for veterans assistance.

Contact your local band office to see if there are funding dollars available to you. Additional funding may be available through the Metis Nation of Ontario.
